We love Android, but rooting your phone can give you the opportunity to do so much more than your phone can do out of the box—whether it's wireless tethering, speeding it up with overclocking, or customizing the look of your phone with themes. Here's what you need to know about the rooting process, and where to find a guide for your phone.P

Update: This used to be our always up-to-date rooting guide, which proved to be too large an undertaking for us to keep up. It was a nice try, but seeing as we only have a few Android phones to test, we couldn't reliably keep it up to date. So, we've changed this guide into more of a general resource for those of you that want to get into rooting (though many of the old comments still remain).P

Check out the glossary below to get acquainted with important rooting terms, then check out the FAQ for more info on your burning questions. When you're ready, check out the last section for resources on your specific device. We can't give you the instructions ourselves, but hopefully we can give you a push in the right direction and make the process easier for you.

What Is Rooting, Exactly?

Rooting, for those of you that don't know, means giving yourself root permissions on your phone. It's similar running programs as administrators in Windows, or running a command with sudo in Linux. With a rooted phone, you can run apps that require access to certain system settings, as well as flash custom ROMs to your phone, which add all sorts of extra features. There are a ton of different Android phones out there, and while some rooting methods might work for multiple phones, there is no one-size-fits-all guide for rooting every phone out there. But, there are a lot of things you should know about rooting before you start, and this guide should help you out.

Most of android users would like to root their devices to get full advantage of the interface but root Android is not an easy job and risky that the devices may get bricked in worst case. A member from XDA developers forum, Alephzain has released root android app called Frameroot which would help in rooting the device.

Frameroot root android apk let users rooting their devices in one click through some exploit such as Gandalf, Pippin and others. The rooting process running without connected to computer and just install Frameroot apk into phone and run it, the app will root the devices automatically.

Download Frameroot apk from XDA developers forum and installed in the devices itself. Open the Frameroot app once installed, select one of exploit list to be use to root here.

Once the exploit selected, the device would be rooted and you would see a possible case message ‘Failed. Try another exploit if available’ or

‘Superuser and SU binary installed. You have to reboot your device’. Now reboot your device and it would take a longer time installed files trying to root the device.

To ensure that the rooting is done by install root checker app that available from Google Play Store.

You can go back unroot status easily by select ‘Unroot’ from the list.

So now we get to the good stuff: actually rooting your phone. Unfortunately, every single phone is different, and rooting methods change every time that phone's software updates. With so many Android phones out there, it's become impossible for us to actually list rooting instructions here—especially because we only own a few different phones ourselves.P

Luckily, now that you know a thing or two about rooting, you're in a much better position to understand some of the other instructions out there. So, here are a few places you'll find guides, ROMs, and other information about rooting your specific phone.P

The XDA Developers forums are the number one place to look for information on your phone. This is where all the best hackers and tweakers gather to discuss phones, share links and guides, create rooting tools, and more. Head to the forums, find your device, and poke around the different subforums for your phone. You should find a number of threads that will direct you to information on how to root your phone, what ROMs and kernels are available, and more. And, when in doubt, ask the other users!P
The Phandroid forums (aka Android Forums) aren't quite as popular as XDA, but they have always done a pretty good job of organizing information on rooting. This is a good place to start. Head to the forum for your device and look for the "All Things Root" subforum.P
RootzWiki may not be as popular as it once was, but there's still good information to be had on these forums, especially pertaining to new ROMs, kernels, and other things on the development side.P
The CyanogenMod Wiki: CyanogenMod, one of the most popular ROMs out there, has a fantastic wiki with a ton of information on different devices. Even if you don't plan on flashing CyanogenMod (or any ROM, for that matter), you can often find information on how to root your phone within their device-specific instructions on installing CyanogenMod, so it's worth checking out.P

Try any or all of the above sources and see what you can find. Once you've found the forum for your phone, search around for a rooting guide or rooting tool. Make sure it's applicable to your current software version and try it out. If you have any questions, you can ask in the forums—but be sure to read as much as you can before doing so, since your question has probably already been answered elsewhere.

Ever wish you had an extra display for your Mac or Windows computer? There's an app for that. With Air Display, you can use your Android screen as a wireless display, to extend your computer desktop. In order for Air Display to work, your computer and Android device must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Like a wired monitor, Air Display works in two ways:
(1) Extend your computer screen onto a second screen, or
(2) Mirror the contents of your computer screen onto your Android screen.

Air Display's performance is extremely responsive, employing a unique dynamic compression algorithm. On a typical Wi-Fi network, mouse cursor refreshes are indistinguishable from a wired mouse. Air Display works in both landscape and portrait configurations. Just rotate your screen, and it automatically reconfigures. Air Display makes a laptop much more useful by increasing its usable screen size.

Air Display not only gives you a wireless computer screen extender or mirror, but also works as a tablet input device. You can use your finger to draw directly on the screen's surface. Try it with a calculator, painting tool, or music control surface. Simple gestures allow you to operate the right mouse button and scroll wheel. When you rotate the screen, or disconnect and reconnect, your windows are automatically repositioned appropriately, so you don't have to drag them back to the Android screen.

Some great uses for Air Display include:

- Fill your Air Display screen with your utility apps such as iChat, Mail, iCal, and Calculator.
- Graphic design: Make Photoshop and Illustrator usable on your laptop by putting your tool palettes on the Android screen.
- Music: Use your Android screen as a wireless control surface for Logic or Pro Tools.
- Programming: Use the extra display area for such auxiliary development tools as Console, Terminal, and the Debugger.
- Business: Move all of your iWork and Office palettes and inspector windows onto Air Display, and let your document fill the screen.
